Hello, My Name is Fear

Updated: Mar 21, 2022

2 Timothy 1:7: For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid but gives us power love and self-discipline.

Isaiah 41:10: Fear not for I am with you be not dismayed for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Fear is usually rooted in uncertainty for the future, and this is a tool the enemy uses to keep us from fulfilling our purpose here on earth. There is a reason why "Fear not" is the most written phrase in the Bible. This is because God knows that fear can cripple and hinder us from fulfilling our purpose.

When we allow fear to dictate what we should and should not do, we restrict the ways God can use us. We begin to doubt our identity and the anointing on our lives. Fear could manifest in different areas of our lives and it could represent different things. A common example, is the fear of failure, in dealing with this type of fear, we must understand what failure means to us and why we fear it so much. Ask yourself “even if I fail, does that mean God is not with me?”, what if that failure is meant to strengthen you?. We cannot be afraid of uncertainties because there would always be an area in our lives that we will be uncertain of. So if we allow it, we can live in fear all through our lives. We have to always remember we came from God and nothing that comes from God is without intention, because our God is very intentional. The anointing on your life represents God - God (the Father), Jesus ( the Son), and the Holy Spirit. We are a representation of God here on earth. Therefore, the anointing is bigger than us and the enemy cannot take that anointing from us.

How do we overcome Fear?

We overcome fear by;

  • having Faith;

  • surrendering our fears to God; and

  • unlearning our ways and learning the ways of God.

As believers, there are times if not all the time that God calls us to step out in faith. As a matter of fact, I can say to be a believer means to walk by faith. Faith simply means walking in the confidence of God. Stepping out in faith takes a remarkable amount of courage. And I have come to realize that when the Bible says we must die to ourselves; it means every aspect of your being must conform to the word of God. Your flesh must die, your selfish desires must die, your plans must die, you MUST completely surrender to the PERFECT WILL of God and let go of everything else that you are holding unto. I like to use the illustration that faith means becoming a baby for God to use, direct, and mold. That's why it is a very difficult task for an adult to do. As adults are already used to their ways, so the process of unlearning to learn the ways of God becomes very daunting. I would be lying if I say I do not struggle sometimes. But with God, I am able to take one step at a time, walking towards the path God leads me. And even when I take a detour, I always run back to Him.

A logical example, is a story of a man who hired a renowned coach to teach him how to play tennis. On the first day of his lessons, the coach told him that the most important lesson is that he must forget everything he has been taught. The coach stated that if he brings his old principles, it will prevent him from understanding and perfecting the new principles the coach will teach him. Obviously, if the old principles were very effective, the man would not be looking to get professional help.

As believers, we must also adapt this, we cannot bring our old principles when we surrender to God because we will restrict our growth.

We must realize that as long as we do not go to our professional (God) for help, we cannot reach our full potential, discover our identity and live a life filled with purpose. Ask yourself why would I settle for anything less than God has for me?

I pray we surrender our fears to God and trust that He is working for our good.

If you struggle with fear in a certain area of your life, I urge you to take steps in that particular area for 21 days. Do things that you have been afraid to do and ask God for strength.

Salvation Prayer: If you stumbled on this blog and you do not know this "God" I write about, but you feel a leading in your spirit to know more. Well, Welcome! God loves you and has led you here for a reason. If you desire to build a relationship with Him, the first step is to say this prayer below:

	 Lord Jesus, I come today as a sinner.
	 I know that I have turned away from You several times.
	 Today, I confess and repent of all my sins,
	 I believe You died for me and rose again,
	 I ask that Your precious Blood purify my life.
	 I ask that You change me, renew me and lead me.
	 Become my Lord and personal Savior.
	 Now, I am yours and I am Born Again.
	 Thank you Lord for saving me. Amen.

Congratulations, the Bible tells us that every time someone gives their life to God, there is a celebration in heaven over that person, you are loved and celebrated at this moment and forever. Amen!
